  • June 3, 2024

This half term we are learning about the Ancient Greeks. The Ancient Greeks started the Olympic games in 776 BC.

Can you become an Olympic mathlete and complete our challenges?

We look forward to reading your answers in your homework books. Make them colourful and exciting.

Bronze

If the first Olympic games began in 776 BC and the modern games began in 1896, how long was it before the original games were modernised? (Remember there are 776 years until AD or CE years start).

If an Olympic athlete runs 1500m every day for a year, how far has he run? Answer in metres and Km.

Silver

The Olympic Games are held every 4 years – count in multiples from 2024 in order to identify future games. Will there be an Olympic Games in 3018? 4012? 7134? Discuss.

How many Olympic Games will there be before 2050? How many Games will be held between 2070 and 3046?

Gold

Some of the greatest Mathematicians to ever live were Ancient Greeks. Use this link as a starting point for your research and present your findings in a poster. (The link will need to be copied and pasted).

    platinum :
    ———
    The square root is (52)2 because :
    a2+b2=c2
    42+62=c2
    16+36=52 (you have to times the 42 and 62 with their same number like 4*4 , 6*6 )
    52=c2
    you can also write as 52 1/2 (half)
    x=52
    I forget to do platinum in my book ..
    I cant do my square root in my laptop..

    Bronze
    The original games was modernised after 2672 years.
    In a year he will run 547500m and 547.5 km.

    Silver
    There will not be games held 3018.

    3018 – 2024 = 994

    994 / 4 = 248.5

    There will be games held in 4012.

    4012 – 2024 = 1988

    1988/4 = 497

    There will not be games held in 7134.

    7134 -2024 = 5110

    5110/4 = 127.5

    There will be 7 Olympic games before 2050.
    There will be 244 games held between 2070 and 3046.
