On Wednesday 9th February, students from year 5 competed against each other to be the holders of the Sports Champion’s trophy. The teams battled it out in a round robin competition, before entering the semi-finals and finals. 5 Red were victories in the group stages, winning all of their 3 matches. This left 5 Blue and 5 White to battle it out in a best of 5 round semi-final.
The semi final was very close, it went into the final round with the scores tied at 2-2. However, it was 5 White who won with their last roll of a stone to reach the final.
As to form in the group stages, 5 Red raced to a 2-0 lead. However, the resilient 5 White didn’t give up, and pegged them back to 2-2 to send the final to a 5th round. In the end though it was indeed 5 Red who ran out deserved champions.
As always in these tournaments, it is the attitude and values the students show which are most important, and I was delighted in the teamwork, empathy and kindness shown by both winners and others who took part, as well as being able to witness some brilliant curling. Well done to all who took park.
