Imagine your family agreed to give you some pocket money every day for a month! You can choose from the following options:

  1. £10 every day
  2. £3 on the first day, £3.50 on the second, £4 on the third, and so on, increasing by 50p per day
  3. 1p on the first day, 2p on the second, 4p on the third, and so on, doubling each day.

Without doing any working out, which one would you choose, and why?

In a month with 31 days, how much money would you have by the end of the month, under each system? You may wish to explore using a spreadsheet…

In which months would option 1 be better than option 2?
If your family stopped your pocket money on day 8, which option would give you the most?
On which day of the month does option 3 become the most fruitful?
If you chose option 3, how many days would it be before you became a millionaire?

    1. John spend altogether 1.70 + 3.20 = 4.90 £
    2. Rayan spent altogether 3 x 22 = 66p

    Silver:
    Raspberries:
    1. Waylon spent 2 x 24 = 48p and Talia spent 5 x 48 = 240p which is 2.40£.
    2. Altogether they spent 240 + 48 = 288p which is 2.88£.
    3. Talia spend 240 – 48 = 192p more than Waylon which is 1.92£.

    Peaches:
    1. Lia spent 3 x 36 = 108p (1.08£) and Marcus spent 2 x 108 = 216p (2.16£).
    2. Altogether they spent 108 + 216 = 324p (3.24£).
    3. Marcus spend 216 – 108 = 108p (1.08£).

    Gold:
    Liam has 10p, 10p, 10p, 20p and 50p

    Platinum:
I would chose number one because it is a big number to start with and at the end of the month you would have 310£.
    1. 10 x 31 = 310 £
    2. Using an Excel spreadsheet I calculated 325.5£
    3. Using an Excel spreadsheet I calculated 2147483647p (21,474,836.47£)
After doing the maths I understand that number 3 is the biggest!.. This was amazing!.
    – On February option would be better than option two because there are 28 days and I would have 280£ rather than 273£
    – If the family stopped pocket money on day 8, option one would be better because I would have 80£ rather than 38£ for option two and 2.55£ for option three.
You would become a millionaire after 28 days.

    1) Without working out, I would chose option 1. The reason is this immediately over the first few days gives me the biggest reward.

    2) in a 31 day month I would have the below totals

    Option 1 = £310
    Option 2 = £325.50
    Option 3 = £21,474,836.47

    3) Option 1 is better than option 2 in February £280 vs £273

    4) If my pocket money stopped on day 8 , option 1 would give me the most

    £80 vs £38 vs £2.55

    5) Option 3 becomes the most fruitful on day 14

    6) If I chose option 3 I would become a millionaire on day 27

The Roman Empire was a group of countries owned by Rome.

Toga’s could be made from linen or wool.

Roman men would wear a toga whereas Roman women would wear a stole.

    Silver

Although, they were very powerful they eventually got overthrown by the Barbarians. As a result, of their power they would take over many countries.

The romans became very powerful and consequently, became arrogant and complacent which meant the countries they took over eventually got annoyed and took over them.

    Gold

The men wore a long thin tunic with a silk / wool scarf. The women would wore a stole and jewellery called a brooch.

    John has £4.90 because 70p+ 20p= 90p
    then £1+£3=£4 altogether it is £4.90 .
    3 X 22p = 66p because Ryan has 3 cakes then 2 X 3= 6 so then 3 X 22= 66p.
    Silver:
    The answer is 24 X 5= £1.20 because if 4X5=20 24X5=£1.20
    The answer is £3.24 i know this because 9 X 36 = £3.24
    Gold:

    10p + 10p + 10p + 20p + 50p= £1
    Platinum:
I would choose the 1st option because £10 X 31 days = £310 pound at the end of the month.
The second option has £18.50p at the end of the month. So the 1st option would be better for me if my parent stop giving me money on the 8th day I still have £80.
