Metals

Metals come from rocks called ores.

They are strong, hard and shiny materials that can be hammered into different shapes without breaking.

Their properties make them useful for objects such as cutlery, saucepans, cars and coins.

Plastics

Plastics are materials made from chemicals and are not found in nature. They are strong and waterproof, and can be made into any shape by applying heat. Plastics can also be dyed different colours or made to be transparent.

Plastics are used to make all sorts of things, such as bags, bottles and toys.

Glass

Glass is made by melting sand and other minerals together at very high temperatures.

Glass is normally transparent and can be made into many different shapes. Thick glass can be strong, but thin glass will break very easily.

Glass is used for objects that need to be transparent such as windows and spectacles.

Wood

Wood comes from trees.

It is strong and long lasting.

Wood is used to make things such as furniture that need to be strong and last a long time.

Fabrics

Fabrics are made from thin fibres woven together.

Some fabrics, such as wool, cotton and silk, are natural (the fibres come from living things).

Some fabrics, such as polyester and nylons are made from synthetic fibres, which are made in factories, from chemicals.

Different fabrics have different properties. Fabrics can be stretchy (a pair of tights), insulating (keep you warm, like a woollen coat) or absorbent (a towel).

Fabrics are used to make clothes as they are flexible and comfortable, can be warm and do not wear out easily.

    2.Some balls are plastic .
    3.Plastic can easily break .

    Platinum my school bag is made from fabric because it is soft ,stretchy and it is light to carry around. My pencil is made from wood because it is hard , opaque and dull.

    Bottle is made from plastic and it is suitalbe material for a bottle because you can fill it with water and liquid.

    Table is made out of wood and it is a suitable material for a table because it is strong and hard.

    A garden gate is made from metal because it is strong and you can have different patterns to make it look nice .
    My toy car is made from plastic it has different Colours and hard.
    My ceiling light is made from glass it is transparent sparkly and has has lots of different shapes.
    My coat os made from fabric it is warm water proof and very flexible.

    Wood is long and opaque it’s from trees. My dining table and chest of draws are made from wood .
    Fabric are soft and also csm be stretchy. My clothes are made of fabric, my sofa and curtains are made from fabric.

    You can’t see through wood so you will not have a view or see who’s outside .

    It would fall to the ground , so not sturdy .

    fabric would not be a good material for a table because the fabric would flop onto the floor it would not stay up. Also if you spill a drink it would just go straight through it.

    metel is not good because it is not comfitable it is not flexible and it is not soft.

    1. Pen- it is made from plastic. It is a good material because it is easy to write with and it is strong so it won’t break or fall apart.
    2. Medicine Bottle- it is made from glass. It’s tough and can be hard to break, it is waterproof.
    3. Spoon- it is made from metal and it is strong and smooth for us to use.
    4. Crayon- it is made from wood so it can last a long time.
    5. Coat- it is made from wool which is a fabric. It is good to wear because it is comfortable and keeps us warm.
