Zebras are African horses. They are in the same genus as the common horse, Equus caballus, and donkeys. Zebras are known for having many black and white stripes. There are three main species of zebra, Grevy’s Zebra, the Plains Zebra, and the Mountain Zebra.

    What do Zebra Look Like?
Physical Description – Most famously, zebras have black and white stripes. Grevy’s are the largest of all zebras, and they have long necks with prominent, erect manes. They have the largest ears of any zebra species, and their long, narrow heads give them a mule-like appearance.

    Where do Zebra Live?
They have a wide range in east and southern Africa. They usually live in treeless grasslands and savanna woodlands and are absent from deserts, rain-forests, and wetlands.

    What do Zebra Eat?
Zebras are herbivores and feed mostly by grazing on grasses, although they also might browse a bit on the leaves and stems of bushes. They graze for many hours each day, using their strong front teeth to clip off the tips of the grass.

Llamas are one of the most interesting animals you’ll find in the mountains of South America. Known for their gentle nature and unique appearance, these creatures have been part of human life for thousands of years. Let’s explore the world of llamas and learn more about their amazing characteristics, habitat, diet, and how they help people.

    What Do Llamas Look Like?
Llamas are large, furry animals with long necks and legs. They have thick woolly coats that can be white, brown, black, or a mix of these colors. Their faces are small compared to their bodies, with large, expressive eyes and long ears that stand up straight. Llamas can grow to be about 6 feet tall from head to toe and weigh between 250 to 450 pounds.

    Where Do Llamas Live?
Llamas are native to the Andes mountains in South America, primarily in countries like Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina. They are well adapted to living in high altitudes where the air is thin and the temperatures can be quite cold. Llamas have special blood cells that allow them to carry more oxygen, which helps them thrive in these mountainous regions.

    What Do Llamas Eat?
Llamas are herbivores, which means they eat plants. Their diet consists mainly of grasses, hay, and leaves. In their native habitat, they graze on the tough grasses found in the high Andes. Llamas have a unique digestive system with three compartments in their stomachs, which helps them break down tough plant material and extract all the necessary nutrients.

    How Do Llamas Help People?
Llamas have been domesticated for thousands of years and are incredibly helpful to the people who live in the Andes. Here are a few ways llamas contribute to human life:
    – Carrying Loads: Llamas are used as pack animals, helping to carry heavy loads over long distances in the mountains. They can carry about 25-30% of their body weight, which makes them very useful for transporting goods.
    – Wool: Llama wool is soft, warm, and lanolin-free, making it ideal for making clothing and blankets. People shear llamas to collect their wool, which is then spun into yarn.
    – Guard Animals: Llamas are also used to protect livestock like sheep and goats from predators. They are very alert and will make loud noises or even chase away potential threats.

    Interesting Facts About Llamas
    – Llamas are social animals and prefer to live in groups called herds.
    – They communicate with each other through a series of hums and other vocalisations.
    – When llamas feel threatened or annoyed, they may spit. This spit can be a mixture of saliva and partially digested food, which is not pleasant!
    – Llamas have a very calm and gentle nature, making them popular for therapy and interaction with humans, especially children and the elderly.
