The children enjoyed spending the day learning all about politics today, as part of ‘Project Prime Minister!’. We shared with the children that a general election is to be held in July, and explained the importance of the impact of this individually, on our communities, and our country. We linked our British values and citizenship to the idea of democracy, and enjoyed learning all about the election system, and explored the key ideas of each of the main political parties. We then formed our own party, nominating a leader and creating a name and logo for this. It was interesting researching some current political issues (the smoking ban) which linked to our Science and PSHE learning. After creating a manifesto, we used our persuasive writing skills to draft speeches. We then collated all of this to form our political party broadcast!
