Welcome back, Year 5! Have a good at your Maths challenge for this term.

Bronze Challenge: Oh no! Earth is being invaded! Some tripods and bipods flew from planet Zeno. At least two of each of them have landed on Earth. Tripods have 3 legs. Bipods have 2 legs. There are 23 legs altogether.

How many Tripods are there? How many bipods are there?

Silver Challenge: Oh no! Earth is being invaded! Some tripods and quadpods flew from planet Zeno. At least two of each of them have landed on Earth. Tripods have 3 legs. Quadpods have 4 legs. There are 30 legs altogether.

How many Tripods are there? How many quadpods are there? Can you find 2 different answers?

Gold Challenge: Oh no! Earth is being invaded! Some hexpods and octopods flew from planet Zeno. At least two of each of them have landed on Earth. Hexpods have 6 legs. Octopods have 8 legs. There are 60 legs altogether.

23 altogether and 3 tripods with 2 Bidpods
I usee my times knowledge and times 3×7=21 and 23 is not in the 3 or 7 times table and 2×11= 22 and thats to small and it is nit in the 2 times table so i think that there are 7 tripods and 1 bipdos

    Bronze
There are 7 tripods and 1 bipods. I know this because tripods have 3 legs in total and if count up in threes you can get to 21 then bipods have 2 legs and 1 bipod =2 legs and 21+2=23.
    Silver
There could be 6 quadpods and 2 tripods because a quadpod contains 4 legs and if u times 4 by 6 you get 24 and you can add 3×2 onto 24 and you`ll get 30 legs.
There could be 6 tripods and 3 bipods because 3×6=18 and 4×3=12 and 12+18=30.

  3. Meena B.

    Bronze:
It is 5 tripods and 4 bipods. I know this because if there is 5 tripods that equals 15 and 4 bipods equals 8. Then 15+8=23.
    Silver:
There could be 2 tripods and 6 quadpods because 2 times 3 is 6 and 6 times 4 is 24, so then
    24+6=30. There also could be 6 tripods and 3 quadpods 6 time 3 is 18 and 3 times 4 is 12,
    so then 18+12=30.
    Gold:
There are 2 hexagons and 6 octagons because 2 hexagons is equal to 12 and 6 octagons is equal to 48. So 48+12= 60. There also could be 6 hexagons and 3 octagons because 6 hexagons is equal to 36 and 3 octagons is equal to 24. So 36+24=60.

  4. Harrison S.

    Bronze
There could be 3 Tripod and 7 Bipods.
    Silver
There could be 2 Tripods and 6 Quadpods or there could be 6 Tripods and 3 Quadpods.
    Gold
There could be 6 Hexpods and 3 Octopods or 2 Hexpods and 6 Octopods.

  5. Manha S.

I have done my challenge in my homework book.

  6. Welat M.

    Bronze:
    5 tripods (5 times 3=15 )and there are 8 bipods (4 times 2 = 8.)
    So 8+15=23
    Silver:
    6 tripods (6 times 4=18) and 3 quadpods (4 times 3 =12.)
    12+18=30
    Gold:
    6 hexpods (6 times 6 = 36)and 3 octopods(8 times 3 = 24)
    24 + 36 = 60
    2 hexpods (6 times 2= 12) and 6 octopods (6 times 8 = 48)
    48 +12 = 60

  7. Adam O.

    Bronze:
    There are 5 tripods and 4 bipods because 5 tripods=15 and 4 bipods=8 and 15+8=23.

    Silver:
    There are 2 tripods and 6 quadpods because 2 tripods=6 and 6 quadpods=24 and 24+6=30.
    There are 6 tripods and 3 quadpods because 6 tripods=18 and 3 quadpods=12 and 18+12=30.
    Gold:
    There are 2 hexapods and 6 octopods because 2 hexapods=12 and 6 octopods=48 and 48+12=60
    There are 6 hexapods and 3 octopods because 6 hexapods=36 and 3 octopods=24 and 36+24=60.

I know there are 15 tripods because 5×3=15 and I know there are 8 bipods because 4×2=15 and it makes 23.

  20. Safa S.

    There is 7 tripods because 3 add 2 is 6 + 1 is 7 times 3 is 21 add 2 is 23
    SLIVER:
    3 times 4 is 12 and 12 add 4 is 16 add 4 is 20 add 10 is 30

  23. Hussein H.

    Bronze
I worked this out by doing 6+4=10 and 10+13=23 so that’s how I got this answer.

  24. Minhaj A.

    Bronze:
There are 7 bi-pods and 3 tripods. I know this because according to the 3 and 2 times table 7 times two is equivalent to 14 and 3 times 3 is the same as 9 so 9 added by 14 is equal to 23.
    7 x 2 = 14
    3 x 3 = 9
    14 + 9 = 23
    Silver:
There could be 6 Quad-pods and 2 tripods or there could be 3 Quad-pods and 6 tripods. This must be the two options because 6 times 4 is a resulting number of 24 and the product of 3 and 2 is 6 so the sum of 24 and 6 makes the target number, 30. The other option is correct because 4 times 3 is 12 and 6 times 3 is 18 so the total number is added up to 30.
    6 x 4 = 24
    3 x 2 = 6
    24 + 6 = 30

    3 x 4 = 12
    6 x 3 = 18
    18 + 12 = 30
    Gold:
    There could be 6 Octo-pods and 2 Hex-pods or 6 Hex-pods and 3 Octo-pods. This is correct because 6 times 8 equals to 48 and 6 multiplied by 2 is 12 so the total of 48 and 12 is equal to 60 and also 6 squared is equal to 36 and 3 times 8 equal 24 so 36 add 24 is 60.
    6 x 8 = 48
    2 x 6 = 12
    48 + 12 = 60

    6 x 6 = 36
    3 x 8 = 24
    36 + 24 = 60

There are 3 octopods and 6 hexpods.

  27. Sayda A.

    Bronze
    There are 7 tripods and 1 bipod because 7 times 3 is 21 and 1 times 2 is 2. 21 and 2 is 23.
    Silver
    There are 6 tripods and 3 quadops because 6 time 3 is 18 and 3 times 4 is 12, 18 add 12 is 30.
    Gold
    There are 6 octopods and 2 hexopods because 6 times 8 is 48 and 2 times 6 is 12. 48 and 12 is 60.

  28. Sayda A.

bronze there are sevan tripods and one bipods
beause you cont in three 3,6,9,12,15,18,21 you can,t do 24 because there23 legs
and one bipods because the are 21 legs and bipods have 2 legs 21 +2 = 23 or you could do 10 bipods and 1 tripod 2,4,6,8,10.12,14,16,18,20 because if you do 22 you won,t have any tripods because they have 3 legs the limte is 23 legs and 22+3=25 also are 10 bidpods and 20 legs 1 tripods 3 legs 20+3=23
