Year 4 Reading Gladiators 📚

This week in reading gladiators we started our new book ’Coming to England’. Which is about Floella Benjamin who was just a young girl when she, her sister and two brothers arrived in England in 1960 to join their parents, whom they had not seen for fifteen months. They had left the island paradise of Trinidad to make a new home in London – part of a whole generation of West Indians, known as the Windrush generation, who were encouraged to move to Britain and help rebuild the country after the Second World War.

During this weeks session, we found Trinidad and the United Kingdom on a globe and spoke about the journey and how Floella and her family must of felt. We then shared our own experiences of moving to a new country, city, house or school to help us understand the character more.

Gladiators please read chapters 1-6 before next weeks session.
